OVERVIEW

Company: Thiess

Multinational
Revenues between $4-5 billion a year.
Reporting Services installed on 13 sites (1 local, 9 nationally and 3 overseas).

Requirement:
Gain an understanding of how the entire Reporting Services system is being utilised.
Focus on specific areas of interest/concern.

Problem:
Reporting Services system implemented as main report tool but we have no idea if it’s being used and how it’s being used
How do you we get a better ROI (Return On Investment) with Reporting Services?
How do we improve utilisation?

Challenge:
360 users spread across 13 Reporting Services sites (some international sites that are very remote).

Solution:
By installing FileRanger and connecting to these sites we were able to immediately show the overall utilisation of each site.
With our user categorisation functionality, we could then show utilisation across different user groups e.g. Supervisors.
With our object categorisation functionality we could then show utilisation by report type e.g. Mechanical Efficiency, Financials.

Q&A with Thiess

Why did you purchase FileRanger?

“Thiess has created a system that provides consistent reporting across 13 mine sites. Having implemented the solution that relies on SQL Server 2000/2005 and distributing it via a Web Portal we then needed to gain a better understanding of the usage patterns across the sites. Microsoft had nothing to enable us to track this so we turned to 3rd party products. FileRanger gives us the flexibility to track this information”.

What demands do you have on FileRanger?
Monitor the usage patterns of the user base.
Determine the type of reports that are meeting the needs of the user base.
Provide statistics for the preparation of a GAP Analysis across our solution.
Report to upper level management the uptake of our solution.

What are you hoping to improve by using FileRanger?
The primary use for FileRanger is to allow for better uptake of our solution. It is envisaged that this will highlight new reports that are required and shortfalls in the training system that can be addressed.

How so you think FileRanger has allowed you to do this?
FileRanger is in the early stages but it has already enabled us to track usage by the primary audience on each site for our reports. This has highlighted minimal usage by some prime players that is now being addressed.
